Giacomo Brezza e Figli Barolo Bricco Sarmassa 2017
Barolo - Langhe - Piedmont - Italy
ABV - 14.5%
A particular favourite Barolo producer of mine and the Sarmassa is often rated with much more expensive high-end single vineyard Barolos. This is the from the 2017 vintage so it a very young Barolo but certainly one that can be enjoyed young with a good long decant. As always with Barolo, made from 100% Nebbiolo. A fragrant and elegant wine with complex aromas of wild berries layered with hints menthol, leather, liquorice, violet, earthy tones and subtle herbal notes. Beautifully balanced with firm tannins, a fruity mid-palate and great length on the finish. Fabulous with red meats, Pasta, game and strong soft cheeses. I have some 2008 in the shed and it’s right in the drinking window now and still going very strong so a wine that can be cellared for quite some time
